Chasing Charley

Waiting to come home…

Dr. Jim called at 5:30 p.m. tonight to tell me that he wanted to keep Charley just one more night.  He was expecting Charley to try to move around a little more during the day today & he wasn’t.  So we wait.

Bless his heart, Dr. Jim just called again (9:30 p.m.) to tell me more about Charley.  He just can’t figure out why he’s not trying to get up, especially since he had been basically managing for the past week or so on 3 legs.  Charley ate a little bit, but Dr. Jim said he has somewhat of a “defeatist attitude.”

Poor little pooch!  I’m going into the Animal Clinic at 8:30 a.m. after I drop the kids off at school to hopefully perk him up a bit!  I didn’t get a chance to visit today because I was wrapping things up at work & expecting to bring him home today.  So I’m overdue for some Charley kisses!

I just hope & pray that his pain is being managed well and that he’ll respond positively to me!  And hoping and praying that he’ll come home tomorrow!  I have no clue how I’m going to deal w/ this 3-legged dog, recovering from surgery….  But I think he’ll do better at home.

Thank you so much! I’m needing all the paw crossing I can get. Will be hard to sleep again tonight w/o my Charley-boy by my side. 🙁

I’m sure he just misses his family, and he’s probably a little confused. I’m sure being at home will do him wonders. We are sending you happy thoughts and keeping our paws crossed for you and Charley.

Thank you! The support on this site is already just fantastic!!!

Waiting is so hard. He’ll be home soon – I’m sure it’ll be strange to try to sleep without him by your side. It won’t seem right, for sure.

Paws and fingers and toes all crossed for a happy homecoming tomorrow.

I’m so sorry to hear your story. You sound like you have a great attitude and take things one paw step at a time.

It is great that the vet wants to watch Charley. It is still early days. Many dogs are whisked out of the clinics even if they aren’t quite ready. So I am glad he is keeping a close eye on him, even though I bet Charley will be happy to get home.

Charley is beautiful. I love English setters but you don’t see many. Sure hope he feels better soon.

Rest up tonight- I know it is hard, but you will have plenty of chances to stay up late over the next few nights!! Hopefully Charlie is just missing his normal routine and he perks up when he gets home. And as far as dealing with a 3 legged dog- sounds like you have had some challenges in your life already- you can handle this too. Pretty soon you won’t be calling him your three legged dog, you will be back to calling him just my dog.

It’s probably a good thing that your vet wants to keep him one more night. We did that with Mackenzie and it brought us a lot of relief cause she had 24 hour care. We hope Charly feels better by tomorrow. Some of our tripawds just take longer than others to recover from such a major surgery. You will soon have your boy back and he will amaze every day. We will be keeping our paws crossed for Charly and sending him lots of healing thoughts :).

It was very worrisome for me to bring Bruiser home after surgery. While I was so happy to have him home, I was also nervous about caring for him properly. The good news is that it wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be! Sure, at times it was SO hard, but all in all, we managed just fine. I am sure you all will too and I bet Charley will be back to wagging his tail in no time.

Of course he will respond positively when he sees you! But don’t worry about the extra day at the clinic. Sadie needed the extra time too, but she was in such great shape when she got home! Paws crossed for a speedy recovery!

Good luck with Charley!! I’m sure he’ll be very happy to see you and say “get me out of here Mom, let’s go home!”
    You’ll manage…one-day-at-a-time…Hugs to you!
